What to Expect at the Autism New Jersey Annual Conference

Walking into a conference filled with educational sessions, resources, providers and hundreds of conversations happening at once can feel exciting. It can also feel like a lot. Maybe you’re a parent looking for answers. Maybe your child is getting older and you’re beginning to wonder what life after school will look like. Maybe you’re a self-advocate exploring your options. Or perhaps you’re a professional looking for resources for the individuals and families you support.

Whatever brings you to the Autism New Jersey Annual Conference, you don’t need to arrive knowing exactly what you’re looking for. Sometimes the most valuable thing you bring home isn’t a brochure. It’s an answer to a question you’ve been carrying, a resource you didn’t know existed or a conversation with someone who understands.

Start With the Questions That Matter Most

You don’t have to learn everything in two days. Before you arrive, think about two or three questions that matter most to you right now.

Maybe it’s:

How do I know if an ABA provider is right for my child?

What happens when school services end?

When should we start preparing for DDD?

What options are available besides a traditional Day Program?

What should I look for in a residential provider?

Having a few priorities can make a large conference feel much more manageable.

Ask More Than “What Services Do You Offer?”

The conference is an opportunity to go beyond what’s written on a website or brochure. Ask providers what support actually looks like. What does a typical day look like? How are goals chosen? How much input does the individual have? How are families involved? How does the organization support independence? And pay attention to how they answer.

At Heart to Heart, we believe the conversation should always come back to the person: What do they enjoy? What are their strengths? What matters to them? What kind of life do they want to build? Services should support that life, not define it.

Thinking About Adulthood? It’s Okay to Start Early.

For many families, the transition to adult services brings an entirely new set of questions. DDD. Support Coordination. Day Programs. Community-Based Supports. Residential Services. You don’t have to understand everything at once, and you don’t have to wait until school services are ending to start learning. Use the conference as an opportunity to explore what’s possible. Talk with providers. Ask questions. Learn about different types of support.

Planning for adulthood isn’t about having the future completely mapped out. It’s about understanding your options so you’re better prepared when the time comes.

Give Yourself Permission Not to Do Everything

You probably won’t attend every session, visit every exhibitor or get every question answered. That’s okay. A successful conference might mean finding one resource you needed. Meeting one person you want to call afterward. Learning something that changes how you approach a challenge. Or simply leaving with a clearer idea of what your next step should be.

Come Find Heart to Heart

Heart to Heart will be at the 44th Annual Autism New Jersey Conference, October 22–23, 2026, at Harrah’s Waterfront Conference Center in Atlantic City. Come see us at Booth 105. But don’t just stop by for a brochure. Come with a question. Ask us about ABA. Ask about preparing for adult services. Ask what a meaningful Day Program can look like. Ask about Community-Based Supports, Residential Services or Behavioral Services. Or simply tell us about the person you’re trying to support.

Because behind every service, referral and program is a person with their own strengths, interests, relationships and hopes for the future. And sometimes a good conversation is the best place to start.

Different On Purpose.
